Literature Text

I love you as the sea loves the sky.
So often separated, they met
in the midst of a storm, coming together
on the edge of vision in a whirling clash of passion,
as lovers might unite at the beginning of time.
Since that fateful night they pine, cruelly confined,
but when the sea rises into clouds they brush,
soft and caressing, and the sky responds
in whispers and murmurs of a soul's longing,
then cries.  Tears fall as the sea returns to itself,
mournfully lone.  It laments in violent crashes:
wave on wave, sea on sea, breaking all it can.

Just so our parting is more bitter fury than sweet sorrow,
but rejoice – there is always wind in the sea
and water in the sky, so such are we:
apart, but always as one.
...sweet sorrow.
